We use our platform to share evidence-based information on the tobacco landscape in Africa, the health risks associated with smoking, and scientifically validated harm-reduction strategies. To strengthen the understanding and implementation of tobacco harm reduction, we amplify emerging research and its implications for public health policy, enabling consumers to make more informed decisions about their health.
Our work includes sustained efforts to educate individuals and build public awareness about nicotine, harm reduction, and the potential of safer alternatives to accelerate the end of smoking in Africa. Raising public awareness is a critical first step.
Today, many people remain unaware of the scale and complexity of the tobacco burden—its health impacts, economic consequences, and strain on healthcare systems. Moreover, most smokers and members of the public lack access to accurate information about reduced-risk alternatives that could significantly shift the trajectory of smoking-related disease. Our awareness initiatives therefore target the general public, cigarette smokers, policymakers, and healthcare professionals.
Our awareness-raising activities include issuing press releases, policy briefs, and expert commentaries; disseminating research reports and publications; submitting written and oral contributions to policy processes; collaborating with media; organizing public events; and convening conferences, workshops, and educational sessions.
A core component of this work is hosting tobacco harm reduction forums across the continent. These forums share global public health insights, promote informed debate, and expand understanding of nicotine science and the principles of tobacco harm reduction.
