Advocacy
At the Campaign for Safer Alternatives, we strengthen the evidence base by disseminating accurate, science-informed information on nicotine and safer nicotine products.
Tobacco harm reduction encompasses a range of policies and interventions designed to reduce the health risks associated with cigarette smoking and protect public health. Unlike approaches that rely solely on complete abstinence, harm reduction acknowledges that many people are unable or unwilling to quit smoking in the short term, and that support should not be conditional on abstinence. This pragmatic public health strategy respects individual autonomy, empowers consumers to make informed, safer choices, and provides realistic pathways to reduce the use of high-risk, combustible tobacco.
Our mission is to expand access to effective, affordable, and substantially lower-risk alternatives to smoking. We work to increase public awareness and education, advocate for evidence-based regulatory and legislative frameworks that improve health outcomes, and highlight the benefits of reduced-harm options for smokers.
We champion the adoption and integration of tobacco harm reduction within public health practices and seek to ensure that consumer perspectives are meaningfully represented in policy and legislative discussions at local, national, and international levels.
A key part of our advocacy involves fostering dialogue, sharing scientific evidence, and facilitating collaborative action aimed at reducing exposure to tobacco-related harm.
